Some dwarves believe that someone who sees a gem’s rough shape cannot own it unless they cut the gem themselves, or else it’s bad luck. Miners cannot buy gems they dug from the earth after they’re shaped into jewels, and jewelers won’t sell jewelry to someone who has seen one or more of the gemstones uncut
