I’ve noticed a pattern lately, that I’ve also seen on other MUDs with different playerbases. Player A creates a character and becomes fairly well-known in-game and out, and decides it is time to create another character. When they do, Player A immediately starts sending tells and comments to people to check out their new alt, or make posts on the MUD’s forum regarding their new alt in a semi-blatant fashion.
While we understand the need to socialize with your friends, and though it is not a rule or regulation, we strongly recommend that people not be so open about new characters that they create. Everyone is systematically branded in the game as playing a certain way, or always creating a certain type of roleplay.
By practicing ALT secrecy, you allow yourself to broaden your roleplay. It’s easier to step out of your normal comfort zone and really try something new without falling into old habits. Not to mention it allows you to shake off all the stress and responsibility of your previous alt and have some alone time with your own thoughts and goals with your new character.
It’s also a safeguard against people who might paint you as a player they don’t like, and may help prevent bias IC and OOC with your new alt.
Again this is only strongly recommended, but we see people falling into the rut of wanting to show off their alts already during alpha testing.
