These guidelines and tips below are to help the areas of Advent flow consistently with each other. They are to be incorporated into all areas.
Be sure to follow the guideline for building mobs on Advent.
- Keywords for a mob should include all of the main nouns and adjectives in a mob’s long description. For example, a mob with the long description “A beautiful elven woman paces quietly here.” should have the keywords “beautiful elven woman“. If the mob’s short description includes a name or different nouns/adjectives than its long description, include those words as keywords as well. This is fairly important since players will generally use the most obvious keywords to look at your mob.
Note: Do not use keywords that match players already in the game. It will prevent them from logging in.
- Mob short descriptions should always begin with a lower case letter, unless the mob’s short description is a proper noun such as a name. Examples: “a beautiful elven woman”, “a felar mercenary”, “Fredrick, Captain of the Guard”. Short descriptions should NEVER end with any sort of punctuation.
- Mob long descriptions should ALWAYS begin with a capital letter and ALWAYS end with a period.
- Familiarize yourself with mob templates and use them whenever possible. Use of templates ensures that your mobs will meet consistency guidelines and removes the need to set individual stats. If you need a new template added to support mobs in your area, speak to a coder or Crystal. If you want to build a unique mob that doesn’t go by a template, speak to Crystal.
- By convention, do not use color in mob descriptions, short descs, or long descs. There are no exceptions.
- Advent is a middle-fantasy MUD. Basically what this means is, though there are firebreathing dragons, mysical wisps and golems, and other typical magical creatures, there are NOT magical guinea pigs that shoot lightning out of their eyesockets. There isn’t something magical brewing around every corner. Magic is somewhat scarce in our world, and though people know about it, not everyone sees it very often. Basic animals should be just plain ordinary animals, not beasts of terror.
