Magical Objects

Objects can be set to cast spells, using the fields below:

Perm Spell: Set this with “spell <spell name>“.  This sets the spell the object will cast on its own.  An object can only be set to cast one spell.  There’s no easy way to view a list of all the spells in the game, so use your own knowledge or ask someone for help if you don’t know what spell to set.

Activation: Set this with “activation <#>“.  This determines how and when the object will cast its spell.  You can use “? activation” to see a list of all possible activation types.  The current list is:

0:  never

1:  when worn

2:  permanently while worn

3:  in combat

Option 1 will cast the spell once when the object is first put on.  This is good for things like rings that poison the wearer when he first puts it on.  The player can remove and re-equip the item as often as he wants, so this activation type is best for negative affects.

Option 2 affects the player with the spell permanently, as long as the object is equipped.  Boots of Flying are a good example, or bracers that cast a stat buff.  Or a powerful item that affects the wearer with a debuff as a counterbalance.

Option 3 will cast the spell randomly in combat.  Offensive spells will target the character’s opponent, defensive spells will target the wearer.

Option 0, never, essentially clears the spell affect.  Even if a spell is set, it will never be cast.

Act chance: Set this with “chance <#>“.  This is the chance that the spell will be cast, based on its activation type.  The example of a ring that poisons its wearer when worn, for instance, can be set to only poison the wearer 20% of the time.  For spells cast in combat, this is the chance that the spell will be cast once each combat round.  Spells cast permanently while worn should always be 100%, because the wearer could just keep trying to remove and equip the object until the spell goes off.

Level: Set this with “level <#>“.  The level of the object determines how powerful the spell will be.  Levels are on a scale from 1 to 50.  Around level 15-20 is the equivalent of a character with their magic skills at rank 1.  Around level 30-35 is a character at rank 2 magic, and level 45-50 is the equivalent of a rank 3 master mage.
